Benefits of Membership
Membership in the Sustainable Business Network of Portland is open to private businesses, non-profits and individuals who are interested in working together to create a Local Living Economy in the greater Portland area to:
--Re-circulate more dollars in our community
--Support and strengthen locally owned, independent businesses and jobs
--Preserve and enhance our unique neighborhoods
--Get consumers to commit to spending more dollars with our participating businesses.
While benefits vary based on type of membership, the most import benefit is the ability to help create the type of community we want to live in.
Promotion Through Our Local First campaign
- Detailed listing in the SBNP Marketplace, an online directory of independent, locally-owned businesses, and in the
national BALLE Marketplace. SBNP member listings will be indicated by a "BALLE flower"

- Differentiation and promotion of your business - as a participant in the Local First campaign which is open only to SBNP members
- Receive a campaign kit with posters, stickers and information on
how to use the campaign marketing materials and educate your staff and
the public about the importance of choosing locally owned businesses.
- Opportunities for exposure in local and national media through campaign events
- Use of the Sustainable Business Network of Portland logo and campaign logo for your business cards, fleet vehicles or advertisements
Training, Education and Information Resources
- Discounted member rates for Conferences, Workshops and on-going Public
Forums like our monthly Visionary Luncheons.
- Educational support to help you reach your Local goals implementing sustainable business practices.
- Access to new information on investing and raising capital through our Calvert Living Economy fund and database

Networking and Collaboration

- Ability to attend the fall Social Venture Network conference as invited BALLE members
Participation in Working Groups
- Join one of the existing projects working to create building blocks of a Local Living Economy, such as helping create a strong local food system, create and foster sustainable businesses, etc.
- Come together to form working groups to carry out projects in other building block areas such as renewable energy, waste and recycling, access to community capital, etc.

Join and be a part of an important movement to protect the unique character and environment in our region
- Advocate for policies that support independent local businesses and farms, promote economic equity, and protect the environment
