Renewable Energy Challenge Kick Off: Making the Switch to Renewable Power
One of the easiest ways that your business can implement a sustainable business practice is to join the SBNP Renewable Energy Challenge and sign up for renewable power. Our goal is to get 100 SBNP businesses to sign up by June 30th!

Speakers: Geoff Bastian, Partnership Associate with 3 Degrees will represent the options for Pacific Power customers, Josh Halley, Commercial Market Manager with Green Mountain Energy will present the options available for PGE customers and info about a third option, Bonneville Environmental Foundation will also be available.

The average electricity usage for a typical SBNP business in Portland is about 1600 kilowatt-hours per month. Using that number as a baseline average, if 100 of our members signed up for 100% green power at a cost of about $13 more per month, it would have the same annual environmental benefits as:

**Not driving the average car 2,880,000 miles
**Planting 530 acres of trees or
**Avoiding 2,688,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.

Local First campaign

The Local First campaign is the major economic initiative of SBNP, begun in November of 2004. The campaign continues to gain momentum, with over 350 participating businesses listed in the SBNP Marketplace. The goals of this campaign are to:

--Keep more dollars re-circulating in our community
--Support and strengthen locally owned, independent businesses and maintain jobs
--Preserve and enhance our unique neighborhoods and business districts
--Get consumers to commit to spending more dollars with locally owned businesses

Membership in SBNP includes participation in the campaign and members receive a campaign kit that includes a window sticker/decal, silk screened poster, marketing materials, free use of the logo in your own marketing efforts, an enhanced listing on our online marketplace and discounted member rates on events, conferences and programs. If anyone contacts your business saying that they are working in partnership with SBNP, these affiliations will be advertised and promoted on this website, in our bi-monthly emails and in our marketing materials. Please contact us at 503 232-2943 if you feel you are approached by anyone saying that we gave permission to contact our members and participants in the Local First campaign. We do not trade lists or give out contact information, other than what is public on our online directory.
