Goals and Initiatives
The Sustainable Business Network of
Portland's initial goal has been to build a strong alliance and local network of
community-based businesses, non-profit organizations and supportive
individuals, to provide a basis for building a more socially, environmentally and financially sustainable local living economy.
Current initiatives include recruiting new members and empowering existing members, expanding the successful "Shop Locally Owned" campaign, enhancing the (open source software based) SBNP website and identifying high-priority member needs to guide future initiatives.
The Sustainable Business Network of
Portland is also working to coordinate efforts with the wide range of
other non-profit organizations and government agencies that are working to
promote sustainability in Oregon by co-sponsoring and publicizing events, particpating in on-going community activities and acting as a resource on economic sustainability issues.
