Sustainable Business

The Local First campaign is the major economic initiative of SBNP, begun in November of 2004. The campaign continues to gain momentum, with over 350 participating businesses listed in the SBNP Marketplace. Now more than ever, businesses need to market the fact that they are locally-owned to give them an edge over the competition.

The goals of this campaign are to:
--Keep more dollars re-circulating in our community
--Support and strengthen locally owned, independent businesses and maintain jobs
--Preserve and enhance our unique neighborhoods and business districts
--Get consumers to commit to spending more dollars with locally owned businesses

The Sustainable Business Network of Portland is the only alliance of locally-owned, independent businesses, community organizations and individuals dedicated to fostering a truly sustainable local economy in the Portland metropolitan area and is a local network of the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE).

We encourage you to get involved with us as we celebrate and create our unique community. We are always looking for volunteers to help staff tables at events, serve on committees or lend your expertise in a particular area.
